Hyundai Gets Technical

Hyundai recently captured the eyes of car-buyers around the world with the introduction of the "Fluidic Sculpture" design on models like the 2012 Hyundai Sonata and 2012 Hyundai Elantra. But, as it turns out, some of the world's most prominent technology companies are keying into the South Korean automaker's recent success as well. Specifically, Intel and C&S Technologies, Inc. are now teaming up with Hyundai in order to bring drivers around the world a new generation of in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems.

"The demand for smart cars is on the rise in Korea - a powerful IT country," says Hyundai Vice-Chairman, Yang Woong-Chul. "Hyundai will develop in-vehicle infotainment systems that incorporate changes in digital lifestyles and maximize customer convenience in cooperation with Intel and C&S Technology."1

In order to truly maximize the customer's convenience, Intel will be charged with designing the new IVI system. Aside from developing the core of the new system, Intel will also play a large role in the development of new apps for it as well, which drivers will be able to install and customize. Meanwhile, C&S Technologies will be tasked with crafting the necessary computer chips for the system, as well as ensuring that it is properly integrated into the models, on which it will be featured.

At the moment, the three companies have only signed memorandum of understanding (MOU). This means that each party involved is aware of what their partnership means for them, but the actual work has yet to commence. Speaking on the specific role that each company will play, Woong-Chul went on to say, "The MOU aims to fuel growth of next generation IT products for vehicles that can meet growing consumer requirements for both driving related information and entertainments content."2

It may be some time before we see this new breed of IVI systems implemented into the Hyundai lineup. That, however, shouldn't stop you from checking out the wide selection of new Hyundai cars in Davenport at Lujack Hyundai, some of which are beginning to feature Blue Link, Hyundai's new in-car telemetics system.
