Hyundai to Introduce HCD-14 Concept at 2013 Detroit Auto Show

Hyundai has big plans for the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, including the introduction of a new concept car, dubbed the Hyundai HDC-14. Hyundai states the HCD-14 will "give the automotive world a glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design, advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls, and spirited driving dynamics.1

The HCD-14 is rumored to be a new performance sedan that will act as a styling exercise to preview the look/styling of future Hyundai models. Until the show occurs, we'll have to wait and see what the 3-D tech includes and what type of powertrain the vehicle will include.

So, for now, we'll focus on the sedan's styling. It appears more restrained than recent models under the "Fluidic Sculpture" design language. It features cab-rearward proportions that suggest it employs rear-wheel drive, and, overall, it looks rather similar to the Tesla Model S and Audi A7 hatchback models.

The Audi influence is easily seen in the vehicle's angular lights and rather horizontal crease running across its body. Though this element is certainly seen in other Hyundai vehicles, it appears cleaner and more refined on this model. Of course, we'll have to wait and see the model in its entirety at the show, so it could differ a bit from what we infer from the sneak peek.
